It definitely felt a little like fall with the cool morning temperatures at the Colorado Horse Park during the High Prairie Fall Preview but the action on the jumper field was hot. Lindsay Sceats burned it up winning not only the Junior/Amateur Owner Jumper Classic but the $3,500 Mini Prix as well. Sceats, who rides with Michael Dennehy, piloted her Waldi to the top slot in both classes before packing up to head back to Mt. Holyoke College where she is an incoming junior.
Michael Dennehy also watched his rider, Lauren Rahe successfully pilot Page Tredennick’s Last Call to several good ribbons in the Childrens Jumpers. The pair not only won one of the section classes but also topped the Marshall & Sterling Childrens/Adult Amateur Jumper Classic. Cindy Leonis was hard to beat in the Adult Amateur Jumpers. Leonis, a student of Charlie Dennehy at Arapahoe Riding Club, rode her Aquittal to the win in two of the three classes in the section to earn the tri-color.
Over in the Childrens Hunters, 12-year-old Megan Macpherson dominated the 13 and Under age group by taking the championship aboard Limoges (Audrey Carlson, owner) and the reserve championship on Unlimited, an entry of Meridian Farms. According to trainer Tracye Ferguson the youngster is really coming into her own this season. “Megan has had incredible success for such a young rider. She’s been competing on Limoges in the Junior Hunters pretty much all season but we moved her down to the Childrens in preparation for Capital Challenge,” Ferguson said. “Unlimited has spent time showing in the Pre-Green back east with Cismont Manor Farm and Kenny Wheeler. We brought him back this summer with the hope that he will be Megan’s future Junior Hunter.”
Macpherson also did well in the equitation and medal classes. In the irons on her Picture Perfect, she was second to Rachel Rohweder in the Maclay Medal. Rohweder, who rides with Mark Mead out of Sleepy Hollow Farm, not only rode her Covergirl to the Maclay win but earned good ribbons on the mare in both the Small Junior Hunters and several equitation classes.
Of course junior riders weren’t the only ones to pull double duty. Rachel Boggus, who rides with Libby Copeland, was successful all over the show grounds. Riding her own Rythmical, Boggus won three of the Adult Amateur Hunter 18-35 classes on her way to the section tricolor. She also earned the top score in the Marshall & Sterling Hunter Classic. Aboard her Lotario X, Boggus won both Adult Equitation Over Fences classes to claim the section championship. She also won the Ariat Adult Medal.
The class wins continued to pile up for professional Kris Nixon and her Better Days. Repeating their winning ways from the summer series, the pair once again was champion in the Regular Working Hunters. Nixon also earned the reserve championship in the division riding Susanne Stroh’s Unlimited.
