Jean Mutrux Named 2009 USEF Saddle Seat Adult Amateur Medal Final Champion

RELEASE: July 16, 2009
AUTHOR/ADMINISTRATOR: Brian Sosby

Jean Mutrux of St. Louis, MO, took the championship title in the 2009 USEF Saddle Seat Adult Amateur Medal Final at the Lexington Junior League Horse Show on Friday, July 10. Mutrux was coached to the win by her daughter, Abigail. “Coach” Abigail took home the Silver “trainer’s trophy.” As champion, Mutrux was honored with many awards including a beautiful cast resin sculpture created for this event by artist Patricia Crane, a hand-crafted USEF leather cabin bag made by Freedman Harness, a bouquet of red roses, a blue Moxie cooler, a halter, the traditional Gold medal and a Junior League trophy.

Reserve champion honors were won by Morgan Wolin of Chicago, IL. Wolin is coached by Chuck Herbert and Lisa Udhe. Reserve trophies awarded included a red Moxie cooler, a halter, a bouquet of yellow roses and the Silver medal.

The Bronze medal winner, Emma Nichols of Laurinburg, NC, rounded out the top three. Emma is instructed by Liz McBride Jones.

Judging this year’s final were Karen Homer-Brown of Georgetown, KY, Lynda Freseth of Oconomowoc, WI, and Anne Speck of Valley Center, CA. “Honor judging” was the 2008 champion, Brooke Jacobs of Georgetown, KY.

The riders performed on the rail as a group and were also required to complete an individual pattern selected by the judges. The pattern required the riders to work along the grandstand side of the track and demonstrate several of the official USEF Tests (EQ119) including changes of diagonal, circles at the trot and canter and counter catering.

The final results of the class were:
Champion – Jean Mutrux, St. Louis, MO
Reserve Champion – Morgan Wolin, Chicago, IL
Bronze Medal – Emma Nichols, Laurinburg, NC
Fourth Place – Rachel Kelley, Crestwood, KY (coached by Cindy Boel)
Fifth Place – Constance MacQueen, Elmhurst, IL (coached by Scott/Carol Matton)

Following the awards presentation, all riders, instructors and family were invited to a reception lunch held in the Red Mile Clubhouse. Each rider was introduced with her instructor(s) and both riders and instructors received commemorative gifts.
