The Texas Horse Park, a world-class equestrian facility currently under development on 600 acres south of downtown Dallas and a vital part of the Trinity River Project, will host its inaugural annual gala event, titled "Saddles in the City," on Thursday, March 5, 2009, at 6: 30 p.m. at Eddie Deen’s Ranch (944 South Lamar, Dallas, TX, 75202).
Former Dallas Cowboys fullback, horse enthusiast, and "real-life" cowboy Walt Garrison will serve as honorary co-chair of the event, which will feature a live and silent auction, barbecue cuisine and boot scootin’ entertainment by Eddie Deen, and scheduled guest appearances by local dignitaries and celebrity guests.
Proceeds from the event will help support the completion of the Texas Horse Park. Honorary Chair Garrison spent time on the professional rodeo circuit on off-seasons while playing for the Dallas Cowboys. A Dallas-area native, his love of horses and the outdoors made him a natural choice to serve as chair of the Texas Horse Park’s inaugural gala. “I am honored to serve as honorary chair of 'Saddles in the City' and urge the public to join us for a night of fun and fundraising for this amazing facility,” said Garrison. “As a lifelong rider, I am looking forward to the completion of the Texas Horse Park and to the outreach opportunities that it will provide for the citizens of Dallas.”
The “Saddles in the City” gala will include a live and silent auction for luxury prizes, including a Half-Arabian hunter pleasure gelding horse; dinner for eight at Walt Garrison’s private ranch; a week’s stay at a luxurious San Diego beach house; autographed Dallas Cowboys’ items; a photo shoot with renowned local photographer Kristina Bowman; a fine art piece valued at $7,500; fine handmade jewelry valued at $2,500; a pair of custom cowboy boots; and dinner for six at the new Uptown restaurant by Dallas Stars players Brett Hull and Mike Modano, Hully and Mo, among other items.
