Madeleine Genereux Wins 2008 USEF Youth Sportsman’s Award sponsored by Breyer Animal Creations®

RELEASE: December 3, 2008
AUTHOR/ADMINISTRATOR: Stacey Meier

Lexington, KY – The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) and the National Affiliate Working Group (NAWG) committee is pleased to announce that Madeleine Genereux is the winner of the 2008 USEF Youth Sportsman’s Award sponsored by Breyer Animal Creations®. Genereux was selected from an outstanding group of young adults from across the country. Genereux, of Mahtomedi, MN, was nominated by the United States Hunter/Jumper Association for her passion and commitment to the sport along with academic excellence.

Genereux, 18, has demonstrated an ongoing commitment and dedication to the USEF and her affiliate organization. Genereux was selected based on her impressive resume and contributions, passion and dedication to the equine industry. Genereux is an active member of the Minnesota Hunter Jumper Association (MHJA) and currently attends Notre Dame University in South Bend, IN. Genereux’s academic accomplishments include being a member of the National Honor Society and receiving a National Merit Scholarship. Genereux is also a two-time Zepher Award winner, which recognizes students who achieve academic excellence, leadership and service to Mahtomedi High School.

Genereux began riding as a child and was showing by the age of nine. As she progressed with her riding, Genereux was offered mounts from members of the MHJA who helped to educate her and added to her competitive showing dreams, which she is still actively pursuing. In addition to horses, Genereux also enjoys gymnastics and volunteering for service organizations.

“I learned early that hard work and setting goals that are personal and realistic make life meaningful and memorable,” said Genereux. “I know my future service work will contribute greatly to the meaning and memories of my life.”

Genereux will receive a trophy, a scholarship to the educational program of her choice and a lifetime membership to USEF, valued at $2,500. The trophy will be presented to Genereux at the USEF Annual Meeting in January, 2009 in Cincinnati, OH.

“What sets Madeleine apart from the other excellent nominees is her well-rounded efforts to give back—she is active in the equestrian community and the MHJA. Madeleine has outstanding academic accomplishments and she has demonstrated an on-going commitment to the community around her,” said Karen Homer-Brown, USEF’s Managing Director of National Affiliates. “Madeleine’s passion and exuberance are inspiring.”

The USEF Youth Sportsman’s Award is designed to develop youths to become leaders in the equine industry from all breeds and disciplines. This program provides an opportunity for the USEF to recognize outstanding youth members for their achievements.

The award is named after the Sportsman’s Charter, which is the motto of the USEF. The first winner was Caitlyn Novotny from the American Morgan Horse Association in 2007 and Kirsten Kimbler won the award in 2008 after being nominated by two associations, the American Endurance Rider Conference and the Arabian Horse Association.
