American Shetland Pony Club/American Miniature Horse Registry Holds 2008 Annual Convention in Branson

RELEASE: November 18, 2008
AUTHOR/ADMINISTRATOR: By Johnny Robb

With little equines on their minds, members of The American Shetland Pony Club (ASPC) and the American Miniature Horse Registry (AMHR) recently met for their 2008 national convention in Branson.

The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF), who has been strong supporter of the ASPC throughout 2008, hosted a luncheon during the convention for all the attendees and conducted the USEF Shetland Pony Committee meeting. One of the highlights of the convention was a drawing during the awards banquet for a 19” flat screen TV, also donated by the USEF.

During the year, the USEF continued their support of the ASPC by presenting a $1,500 check to the American Shetland Pony Club to support the association’s Olympic goodwill gesture. In July, the ASPC sent a gift of two American Shetland Ponies to the Hong Kong Equestrian Federation in recognition of their efforts for hosting the 2008 Equestrian Olympics.

During the convention in Branson, new directors were sworn in, several committees meetings took place to formulate rules and programs for 2009 and the attendees enjoyed an outing to Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede. Larry Parnell was re-elected for another term as President of the Board.

Zona Schneider, Director of Operations for the ASPC/AMHR, attended the five-day event and said the turnout was great.

“Dolores Williams, the chairperson of the convention, did a wonderful job orchestrating the convention, which was celebrating the 120th year of the American Shetland Pony Club,” Schneider said.

The American Shetland Pony Club, the American Show Pony Registry and The American Miniature Horse Registry are non-profit organizations established to preserve and refine the bloodlines of these small equines and promote the enjoyment of small equines.

Recognized as the oldest and most versatile registry in the United States, the American Shetland Pony Club offers a variety of programs for Shetland Pony and Miniature Horse enthusiasts of all ages. Visit their website at www.shetlandminiature.com.
