United States Hunter Jumper Association is Making the Big Jump

The United States Hunter Jumper Association’s (USHJA) “Building For Growth” Capital Campaign officially launched on Thursday, September 25, at the Kentucky Horse Park. The launch event, held at the historic “Farmhouse” within the horse park, hosted over 300 guests and included Kentucky First Lady Jane Beshear, United States Equestrian Federation CEO John Long, and Director of the Kentucky Horse Park John Nicholson. Plans were unveiled to highlight the new building and provide for its construction.
Founded in 2004, the USHJA was established to promote the hunter/jumper discipline by fostering an educated community of equestrians who, in turn, promote the welfare of the horse and ensure fairness in competition. In the past four years, the USHJA has grown to nearly 40,000 members, a full-time staff of over 12, and dozens of outsourced partners and vendors nationwide. During this time, the USHJA has resided within the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) headquarters in the Kentucky Horse Park.
Due to its unprecedented success and growth, the USHJA Officers and Board of Directors identified the need for larger accommodations in order to position itself for the future. In order to accomplish this milestone, the USHJA launched the “Building For Growth” Capital Campaign. The goal of “Building For Growth” is to raise all funds necessary to construct and maintain a nationally recognized headquarters at the Kentucky Horse Park, the epicenter of equestrian sports and soon to be host of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2010.
The new USHJA headquarters building will be located on a prominent site at the Kentucky Horse Park among other established visitor attractions. Signifying the future and permanence of the hunter/jumper sport in Lexington, KY, the horse capital of the world, the building has several components that serve multiple purposes for the organization and the sports represented. Both interior and exterior spaces have been designed to serve as seminar and training areas and also serve as entertaining spaces during special events. The museum component of the building serves as a dynamic introduction to the novice and celebrates the sport to the enthusiast.
William Moroney, President of USHJA, shared his excitement. “This is an exciting time for all participants in our sport. When USHJA began four years ago we knew we were onto something special. The enthusiasm and support we have received within the industry has shown us the path to our future. This building will lay the groundwork for USHJA to take the hunter and jumper industry into a promising future.”
Moroney went on to say, “As President of USHJA, I am confident that we will reach our campaign goals under the guidance of Weinberg Harris & Associates and the support of the Campaign Committee.”
The USHJA has cultivated a “Building For Growth” Capital Campaign Committee comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds, but who all share a passion for equestrian sports, and a belief in the USHJA and its core mission to represent and safeguard the hunter and jumper industry.
