C. Marvin Harwood, Sr. 1918-2008

C. Marvin Harwood, Sr., a 2007 recipient of the United States Equestrian Federation’s Pegasus Medal of Honor, along with his wife of 55 years, Marjorie, has passed away at the age of 89, on May 10, in St. Louis, MO.
A lifelong resident of St. Louis and graduate of Washington University (B.A. '39), Harwood was an active part of the St. Louis equestrian community for over 60 years. Marvin gave unselfishly to a variety of equine disciplines and organizations both locally and nationally, including steeple chasing, foxhunting, dressage, horse rescue efforts, the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF), the United States Pony Clubs, Inc., the United States Eventing Association (USEA), the Missouri Horse Shows Association, two U.S. Olympic Festivals and Queeny Park Equestrian Events (QPEE). He was a USEF Steward for 30+ years and a USDF/USEF Technical Delegate CH for 35+ years. Marvin sat on the Board of Directors of the USEA and several USEF committees.
A founding member of QPEE, Harwood served as treasurer for over 25 years and as organizer for seven years. He directed his energies towards fundraising. Additionally, he was President of Harwood Associates; President of Clayton Chamber of Commerce; board member of several banks and corporations; Commander U.S. Navy Reserve (retired); and President of the Temple Israel Brotherhood.
Harwood is survived by his wife, Marjorie; three daughters, Melinda (John) Baum, Alexandra (Ron) Weiss and Kevi Harwood; son Charles (Ronni) Harwood; two granddaughters, Ginny Weiss and Cia Harwood; two brothers, Knox (Pat) Harvey and Ralph (Eunice) Horwitz.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 22, at Congregation Temple Israel's May Chapel, with a reception to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Missouri, 1201 Macklind Ave, St. Louis, MO 63110, or to a charity of your choice.
