125th National Horse Show to Move to the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament

During a meeting on Monday, March 10, 2008, the Board of Directors for the National Horse Show Association of America, Ltd. approved with a unanimous vote for the move of the 125th National Horse Show to the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament in Syracuse, NY. The show will run from October 29-November 2, 2008, at the Oncenter Complex.
Officially, the show will be titled as the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament featuring the 125th National Horse Show.
After the 2007 National Horse Show, a search committee was formed and led by Allan E. Shore, Jr. The committee included National Horse Show Chairman Mason Phelps, Jr.; Leo G. Conroy; and Louis M. Jacobs. The goal was to try and find a better date for the National Horse Show that would allow the show to run indoors, and a main point was to bring the ASPCA Maclay National Championship and the National Horse Show back together at one event.
"Syracuse is the logical place, and there is a keen willingness from the Syracuse group headed up by John Madden to join forces," said Phelps.
Madden stated, "Hosting the National Horse Show is a great honor for the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament. I'm very pleased that now hunters, jumpers and equitation will have a year-end event that will be the culmination of their seasons, all in one location."
The Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament, which has hosted the ASPCA Maclay National Championship for three years, will now add the National Horse Show roster of classes to its schedule. It will include professional, junior, and amateur owner hunters with a limited amount of entries.
