RELEASE: February 17, 2014
AUTHOR/ADMINISTRATOR: USEF Communications Department

Lexington, Ky.- We mourn the loss of a great veterinarian and personality in equestrian sport in the United States. Dr. Midge Leitch passed away on February 15, 2014 following a long illness.

Leitch was a longtime member of the United States Equestrian Team having served at team veterinarian for numerous dressage and driving teams in addition to lending her expertise to eventing teams. She accompanied many U.S. teams on international trips including medal winning efforts at Pan American Games, World Championships and Olympic Games.

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania's School of Veterinary Medicine, Leitch was the owner of the Londonderry Equine Clinic in addition to serving as a Faculty Member, Professor, and Head of Radiology at the New Bolton Center. A loyal supporter of equestrian sport and veterinary medicine, she was a member of the USEF Veterinary Committee, Member and Chairwoman of the Welfare Committee of the American Association of Equine Practitioners.

“Midge was a passionate horsewoman and a very well respected member of both the Federation’s Veterinary and Equine Drugs and Medications Committees.  Her tireless effort, dedication and contribution to the welfare of the horse will forever be remembered.” said Stephen Schumacher, DVM, USEF Drugs and Medication Chief Administrator.
