Casey Deary

Born: November 24, 1980
Hometown: Weatherford, Texas

Casey Deary grew up in East Texas the middle of three brothers. He was the only one in his family interested in horses, but knew from an early age they would play a major role in his life.

Deary’s passion and determination were tested at age 16 when he had a life-threatening fall. He sustained major injuries to his face, neck, back and spine. Deary would undergo a series of eight facial reconstruction surgeries over the course of three years.

During high school, Deary began breaking, training and selling young reining horses. He also spent summers working for James Davidson at Dick Pieper’s Ranch in Purcell, OK. Upon graduation, Deary went to work for Clint Haverty at Haverty Ranch where he worked for three years.

Deary valued his education greatly and moved to Stephenville, TX, to complete is college degree at Tarleton State University. During this time he also began working at Jae Bar Fletch Ranch as well as taking on outside horses to train.

In 2002, Deary won the Limited Open class at the NRHA Futurity on Hesa Turbo Chic. He also won the APHA Senior Reining World Championship in 2004 with Color Collector. Also in 2004, Deary collected many top placings with the stallion Little Bay Starlight.

Deary won an open class at the 2008 NRHA Futurity with Gunners Indian. On This Chicsdundreamin he was the Reserve Champion at the 2008 NRHA Futurity.

Deary had a very good season with an array of horses in 2009. Deary and Dun It At Dawn were fifth in the CRI2* at Reining by the Bay. He was third with the Quarter Horse mare, Custom Margarita, at the USEF National Championships in June. In September, Custom Margarita was eighth in the CRI2* at the Ariat Tulsa Reining Classic.

At the 2010 Adequan/USEF Open Reining Championships, Deary rode Rootin Tootin Dunit to an eighth-place finish.

Deary and his wife have two sons, Wyatt and Daniel. They run Deary Performance Horses out of Weatherford, TX.
